Desert Art Lajamanu
The Beginning
- Lajamanu is in the Gurindji tribal lands but is mostly Warlpiri people.
- Tribal elders opposed translation of tribal stories onto permanent materials up to 1985
- After 1985, Lajamanu rapidly became a major painting source
Lajamanu Style
- Lajamanu style is characterized by bold simple colors and large geometrical images
- The best example of this style is "Bush Potato" by Lorna Fencer Napurrla
- The fine dots seen in other desert art are not seen in Lajamanu works.
Lajamanu Artists
- Lorna Fencer Napurrla is the best Lajamanu artist but there are many newer artists using her bold and free style.
- If you see Lajamanu pieces on EBay, do not miss out on a chance to buy works which give great personal pleasure
